Stephanie Ricketts, the former University of Hawaii softball ace, has officially joined the UH women’s basketball team and will play in the upcoming 2012-13 season.

The 6-foot Ricketts will play in the post for the Rainbow Wahine. She has one year of hoops eligibility as a graduate student.

According to UH, she will be the first softball-basketball crossover athlete in school history.

She was a two-time state champion in basketball at her high school, Arshbishop Mitty in San Jose, Calif., in 2007 and ’08.

Ricketts was named an All-American her senior year at UH, when she posted a 28-6 record and a 1.49 ERA.

The Wahine play an exhibition on Friday vs. Hawaii-Hilo at 7 p.m. at the Stan Sheriff Center.
