UH Warriors may play on snowy field in Colorado

A dusting of snow covered the ground and trees in Fort Collins, Colo. today.

FORT COLLINS, Colo. >>  The University of Hawaii football team will find the rare sight — for the Warriors, at least — of snow carpeting the surroundings and temperatures in the high 20s and low 30s later today when the team reaches Fort Collins, the site of Saturday’s game against Colorado State.

The forecast is for temperatures in the 40s at Hughes Stadium at kickoff for Saturday’s 5 p.m. Mountain Time (1 p.m. Hawaii time) Mountain West Conference game.

The Warriors left Honolulu with temperatures in the high 80s Thursday and stayed overnight in Los Angeles before taking a charter flight into Fort Collins.

UH hasn’t played on a snowy field since 1994 when it lost a 14-3 game in mid October in Salt Lake City to Utah the day after snow fell.

The Warriors (1-5) are 6 to 6 1/2-point underdogs to Colorado State (1-6) on most Las Vegas betting lines.
