Hawaii Air National Guard’s F-22 squadrons reach milestone

Hawaii Air National Guard officials say the Hawaii squadrons that fly F-22 fighter jets have achieved a status that will allow them deploy.

The 199th Fighter Squadron of the Air National Guard and the Air Force’s 19th Fighter Squadron have attained Initial Operational Capability status.

The 154th Wing’s commander, Brig. Gen. Braden Sakai, said in a statement Friday this means the F-22 Raptors may deploy anytime, anywhere. He says this adds to U.S. air dominance in the Pacific.

Joint Base Pearl Harbor Hickam is home to 20 of the jets. The Hawaii Air National Guard and the active duty Air Force share responsibility for flying and maintaining the F-22s.
