Broken water main fixed; Ahua Street remains closed

Repairs to a 64-year-old 8-inch water main were completed early this afternoon, but Ahua Street in Mapunapuna won’t be reopened until sometime tonight while the road is being repaved.

The break was reported at 3:30 this morning at 808 Ahua St. near the Hawaii Self Storage facility, affecting 9 businesses. Water service was restored at 1 p.m. after the water line was repaired.

Ahua Street between Mokumoa and Kaihikapu streets was closed until repairs to the water line, which was installed in 1948, are completed. The Board of Water Supply estimates that the paving work should be done by 9 p.m.  A water wagon is stationed at 819 Ahua St.
