Warden: 40 at Pa. prison taken to hospital
YORK, Pa. (AP) — More than 40 female inmates at York County Prison are being treated for carbon monoxide poisoning.
Warden Mary Sabol tells The York Daily Record (http://bit.ly/Sccodl ) that 40-45 inmates in the female dormitory became sick Wednesday night and that officials are investigating the cause. Ninety women live there.
She says, "We had some people who had some carbon monoxide poisoning. …It appears that everyone is going to be OK." She says the gas levels in the dorm are dissipating.
Emergency management officials in Dover Borough say the patients are at York and Memorial hospitals.
Sabol says she’s out of town but that deputy warden Clair Doll and the prison’s facilities manager are handling the situation.
