A 37-year-old Aiea man was sent to the hospital in critical condition following a crash in front of the Kaiser Medical Center in Moanalua late Friday afternoon.

Police said the man was speeding westbound along Moanalua Road in a pickup truck when he rear-ended another motorist, a 42-year-old Waipahu woman. The truck continued on, hitting a guardrail and travelling along a dirt embankment before flipping on its roof and coming to rest back on the guardrail, police said.

The man was taken in critical condition to Kaiser Medical Center with head and internal injuries. The woman complained of leg pain, but refused treatment, police said.

The crash occurred about 4:15 p.m. in front of the hospital, police said.

Moanalua Road was shut down by Honolulu police dispatch from Ala Aolani to Ala Kupuna streets as officers investigated the scene. The road was reopened about three hours later.
