Palm trees aren't swaying and flags aren't fluttering as the usual trade winds fade this morning. The light winds are shifting south, bringing Kona weather and vog to Oahu.

The cooling trade winds are beginning to leave the islands, replaced by variable and Kona winds this afternoon and evening.

The University of Hawaii’s vog forecast shows the vog remaining mostly south of Oahu through Friday morning. But hazy conditions could increase in the afternoon.

The National Weather Service says drier, stable air should reduce the humidity and chance of afternoon showers. But we can still expect warm days, cool nights and the chance of showers developing over interior sections of the islands because of daytime heating.

Forecasters say the chance of heavier showers will increase starting Saturday and voggy, humid Kona weather could continue through the early part of next week.
