Police arrest Waipahu woman suspected in bank robberies

Police arrested a 20-year-old Waipahu woman Thursday in connection with two separate attempted robberies that occurred on Oahu last month.

At about 3 p.m. on Oct 24, a woman walked into the Ala Moana Shopping Center branch of Territorial Savings Bank and tried to enter a restricted area for tellers. Police said she demanded money and told them she had a weapon. The woman fled when she was confronted by a bank employee.

At about 12:55 on Oct. 23, a woman walked into the Wahiawa branch of First Hawaiian Bank. Police said she approached a teller, demanded money and told the teller she had a weapon. She left the branch when a bank manager told her to leave.

Police said the description of the woman in the attempted robbery at Territorial Savings Bank matched a description of the suspect in the attempted robbery at First Hawaiian Bank.

Police located the 20-year-old woman Thursday and arrested her on suspicion of first-degree robbery and second-degree robbery. She was released pending further investigation.
