Hawaii eliminated by Washington in volleyball

Junior hitter Emily Hartong put down a match-high 30 kills and sophomore hitter Jane Croson added 20 but it was not enough as Hawaii saw its season ended by Washington for the second time in three seasons in the second round of the NCAA volleyball tournament tonight in Seattle.

Sophomore hitter Krista Vansant had 16 kills the Huskies finished with a 17-5 edge in blocks in the 20-25, 25-20, 19-25, 27-25, 15-11 victory.

Hawaii (27-3), unseeded in the NCAA tournament for the first time, saw its 20-match win streak snapped. 

Washington (25-6), the 13th seed, advances to Omaha, Neb., where the Huskies will face fourth-seeded Nebraska Friday in the regional semifinals.
