Youth group visits for Pearl Harbor anniversary

Several dozen boys and girls from across the country are in town for this year’s remembrance of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor.

The 68 are members of the Young Marines, a national nonprofit education and service program. The group will participate in a wreath-laying ceremony at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific today.

On Friday, they will lead the Pearl Harbor Memorial Parade in Waikiki.

The Young Marines are visiting Hawaii along with 22 adult volunteers. They come from 11 states.

The Young Marines organization was founded in 1959. It teaches leadership, teamwork and self-discipline.

Boys and girls may be members from age eight through their graduation from high school.
