9 Schofield soldiers hospitalized from heat exhaustion
Nine soldiers with the 25th Infantry Division were hospitalized due to heat-related injuries incurred while on a 12-mile foot march through Schofield Barracks’ East Range Training Area Friday morning.
The men were part of a group undertaking the march as part of a qualification test for the Army’s Expert Infantryman Badge when the city Department of Emergency Services was called to assist about 10 a.m., said Maj. David M. Bolender, deputy public affairs officer for the division.
Eight of the nine soldiers were released by Friday afternoon. The ninth soldier remained hospitalized in stable condition.
Emergency Services officials described those hospitalized as all men in their 20s.
