The Associated Press today named Laie’s Manti Te’o a first-team All-American at linebacker.

The Punahou alumnus finished second in the Heisman Trophy voting after leading No. 1 Notre Dame to a 12-0 regular season and a berth in the Bowl Championship Series title game.

Te’o was the only Fighting Irish player named to the first team. Meanwhile, Te’o and his teammates will look across the field at an Alabama team boasting four first-teamers. Six Crimson Tide in all made the first, second or third team, while four total from Notre Dame were honored.

Heisman winner Johnny Manziel of Texas A&M was named the first team’s quarterback.
