The Coast Guard is trying to locate the owner of a surfboard that was found about 2.5 miles southwest of Diamond Head Thursday.

Authorities have received no report of a person in distress. The surfboard, with a broken leash, was found by the crew of a 45-foot response boat from Coast Guard Station Honolulu, who were conducting training in the area.

The surfboard is green and burgundy, 9 feet 6 inches long, with the words “Island Classic” on it.

The crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Galveston Island, a 110-foot patrol boat homeported in Honolulu, and an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Barbers Point are assisting with the search.

Anyone with information regarding the surfboard or its owner is asked to contact the Coast Guard Sector Honolulu command center at 842-2600.
