Our Redeemer to close elementary school next year

Our Redeemer Lutheran Church will close its preschool through sixth-grade school after the 2012-13 school year, the church announced Thursday.

However, the church said its Lutheran High School will be expanded to a grades 7 through 12 school, from its current 9-12 program. The change will take effect with the 2013-14 school year.

The church said in a news release that declining enrollment prompted it to close the elementary school.

“Regrettably the decline in enrollment during recent years has made it necessary not to re-open the lower grades for next year,” the church said in a news release.

The church said its elementary students will be encouraged to enroll in one of the other Lutheran schools on Oahu: Our Savior Lutheran School in Aiea, Saint Mark Lutheran School in Kaneohe, Trinity Lutheran School in Wahiawa and Good Shepherd Lutheran Preschool in Kalihi.

For enrollment information in the expanded secondary school, call the admissions director at 949-5302 or visit www.lhshawaii.org.
