Prosecutors charged a 32-year-old man with two counts of  misdemeanor abuse after he allegedly tried to strangle a 26-year-old woman in his truck Saturday night.

Police said the man, who had no local address, saw the woman at the Kamehameha Shoping Center at about 10:30 p.m. and forced her into his truck and drove her to another location, where he allegedly tried to strangle her.

Police arrested him at the main police station on suspicion of kidnapping, terroristic threatening and abuse of a family or household member Tuesday afternoon.

However, prosecutors declined the felony charges and cited him with misdemeanor abuse.  Baill was set at $3,000.
