Some $132.8 million in visitor spending last month was generated by the Honolulu Marathon.
The figure is contained in a study by Jerome Agrusa, chairman of the Travel Industry Management program at Hawaii Pacific University.
Agrusa’s conclusion was based on surveys of 2,152 visiting marathon participants, 1,569 of which were from Japan.
This year’s spending of $132.8 million generated $6.18 million in taxes, compared to the $107.6 million in spending and $5 million in taxes generated last year, Agrusa found.
It was the eighth consecutive year in which the Honolulu Marathon generated mroe than $100 million in economic impact.
