Health warning signs like this was were placed at Keehi Lagoon after a wastewater spill from a cracked pipe that is being repaired today.

The health department today posted signs this morning warned swimmers, fishermen and canoe paddlers to stay out of the Keehi Lagoon near the Nimitz Highway viaduct because of a wastewater discharge.

The health department’s clean water branch said the discharge — ongoing and intermittent — is coming from a cracked pipe located under the Nimitz viaduct.

Water samples are being taken and the pipe is being repaired. The public is advised to remain out of the water until the signs have been removed.
