Honolulu youth chosen by Carnegie Hall for select orchestra
Markus Osterlund, formerly of Iolani School, has been selected by Carnegie Hall officials to play French horn in its first National Youth Orchestra of the United States of America this summer.
Osterlund, now attending a fine-arts-focused boarding school in Michigan, was the top French horn player and drum major while at Iolani, according to Wayne DeMello, in the school’s performing arts department.
Osterlund is among only 120 students selected from 42 states, who will gather from June 30 through July 23, to form the orchestra.
