Hawaii holds off USC in 5 for a second consecutive volleyball match

JP Marks put down 22 kills and Siki Zarkovic added 12, including the final two points, as No. 10 Hawaii defeated No. 13 USC in five sets for a second consecutive volleyball contest, 20-25, 25-21, 25-18, 23-25, 15-9 tonight at the Stan Sheriff Center.

It was just the second time this season that the Warriors took a series from an opponent, the other being Pepperdine last month.

Hawaii improves to 7-12 overall, 6-10 in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation. The Trojans drop to 4-11 overall and MPSF.

Brook Sedore added 11 kills and Davis Holt was was in on six of the the Warriors’ 11 blocks. 

USC got 19 kills from Joey Booth, 13 from Alex Slaught and 11 by Tanner Jansen. Henry Cassiday led the Trojan defense with 16 digs. 

Hawaii goes on the road for two matches against Cal Baptist Friday and Saturday in Riverside, Calif. The Lancers are right ahead of the Warriors in the MPSF standings at 5-9. 

It was the 11th time Hawaii played a five-set match this season, two more than the previous program record. The Warriors are 6-5.
