Man reported wandering through traffic found dead on Big Isle highway
Hawaii County police responded Friday night to a call of a man wandering through traffic in the Volcano district to find a man lying dead in the middle of the road after being hit by a vehicle.
Police and firefighters responded to the 7:40 p.m. call and found a man, estimated to be between 45 to 65 years old, lying dead in the middle of the two-lane highway, according to Hawaii County fire officials. Paramedics started CPR and transported the man to the hospital, but he remained unresponsive, fire officials said.
The accident occured on Highway 11 near the 20.5-mile marker, which was closed in both directions while police conducted their investigation. The highway has since been reopened. The accident remains under investigation.
