Long Beach State beats Hawaii in series opener
Shane Carle pitched Long Beach State’s first complete game of the season and Colton Vaughn put the game out of reach with a two-run single in the seventh inning in the Dirtbags’ 6-2 win over Hawaii on Friday at Blair Field in Long Beach, Calif.
Carle (3-8) struck out seven and allowed two runs on seven hits to earn the win for LBSU (23-24, 10-9 Big West).
Connor Little (1-6) gave up six runs — five earned — on eight hits in seven innings to take the loss for Hawaii (11-32, 6-13).
Conner George snapped an 0-for-21 skid with an RBI single in the first inning.
Stephen Ventimilia went 2-for-3 with a double and scored both UH runs.
The Rainbows dropped to 1-20 in games they scored two runs or less.
