Officials trying to find monk seals that need help
State conservation officials and monk seal advocacy groups are looking for two Hawaiian monk seals that need help.
On Maui, a monk seal seen near Olowalu has a fish hook lodged in its neck.
Another emaciated monk seal was seen near Kalaupapa on Molokai.
Anyone seeing either monk seal is asked to call the monk seal hotline at 888-256-9840.
State land board chairman William Aila held a news conference today asking for the public’s help in locating the monk seal with the fish hook.
Aila said once the monk seal is found, state conservation workers plan to capture it and remove the hook.
