Ewa Beach man charged after neighborhood standoff
A 55-year-old Ewa Beach man has been charged with terroristic threatening after an eight-hour standoff with police Thursday.
Mark Char was charged with failure to have a place to keep a pistol or revolver and second-degree terroristic threatening. He posted $25,000 bail over the weekend.
The incident began after 8 p.m. Wednesday when an officer went to a Halolani Street address to investigate a parking complaint. While interviewing Char, the officer noticed that the man was wearing a shoulder holster showing the butt of a firearm, police said.
Police said that Char resisted when the officer tried to arrest him Thursday night. At that point, the man’s 55-year-old wife intervened, and the suspect fled into his home. He refused to come out until 5:15 a.m. Thursday, when he surrendered to police. Homes in the area were evacuated during the standoff.
