UC Riverside evens series against Rainbows
Francisco Tellez went 3-for-4 with two triples and three RBIs to help UC Riverside snap Hawaii’s four-game winning streak with a 7-2 victory on Friday night at the Riverside Sports Complex in Riverside, Calif.
Ben Doucette (3-7) scattered nine hits in a complete-game victory for the Highlanders (13-32, 9-17 Big West).
Hawaii senior Corey MacDonald (7-6) had his shortest outing of the season as he was roughed up for 11 hits and six runs in 5 1/3 innings to take the loss.
MacDonald finished the season with 99 1/3 innings pitched, falling two outs short of 100. He would have been the first UH pitcher to reach 100 innings in a season since 2006.
Conner George singled twice for his first multihit game since April 27 against Cal State Fullerton. Kalei Hanawahine hit an RBI triple and Max Duval followed with a run-scoring double for Hawaii (16-34, 11-15).
UH will finish its season on Saturday at 10 a.m. Hawaii time. A victory would give the Rainbows a third series win in four weeks.
