State and Maui County officials say West Maui’s only boat launch ramp will be closed two months for repairs.

The Maui News reported that the concrete ramp and two loading docks have degraded and that replacing them will cost $892,000.

Officials met Tuesday with commercial operators and fishermen to discuss when to close the ramp.

Department of Land and Natural Resources boating engineer Eric Yuasa said he can’t guarantee that the facility can continue operating for another six months or even two months.

State officials originally scheduled repairs for January and February. Some users said they prefer a shutdown in October and November.

Yuasa said state officials and a contractor will discuss timelines. Another public meeting on the ramp is tentatively set for June 18.
