Ex-Honolulu guard sentenced for inmate sex abuse
A former correctional officer is going to prison for one year and eight months for sexually abusing an inmate.
U.S. District Court Judge Susan Oki Mollway sentenced Richard Seaman today. She also ordered him to pay a $3,000 fine and serve three years of probation.
Seaman last year pleaded guilty to one count of sexual abuse of a ward. Prosecutors agreed to dismiss four other counts in exchange for his plea.
According to the plea agreement, Seaman had sex with an inmate while supervising female inmates working in the commissary. FBI agents arrested him at the detention center after the woman saved his DNA on her shirt and turned it in to investigators.
Defense attorney William Harrison says Seaman resigned from his job after he was arrested.
