Driver, 82, arrested; Motorcyclist who died in Kauai crash identified
A 52-year-old motorcyclist who died following a traffic crash in Kapaa on Saturday was identified as Thomas Newsome, Kauai police said.
The 82-year-old female driver of the sedan involved in the fatal collision was arrested on suspicion of second-degree negligent homicide and was later released pending investigation.
The motorcycle was heading north on Kuhio Highway and the car was turning left onto Lanikai Street from the southbound lane of the highway when the collission occurred about 5 p.m.
Newsome was transported to Wilcox Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The car driver was also hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries. She has since been released.
