Deputies arrest motorist accused in police officer’s death in 2012
State sheriff’s deputies arrested the motorist believed responsible for the freeway collision that killed a Honolulu Police Department officer last year.
An Oahu grand jury returned an indictment Tuesday charging Scott Ebert with manslaughter in the Jan. 21, 2012, death of officer Garret Davis.
Ebert was arrested on Friday. His bail was set at $100,000.
According to police, Davis had stopped his blue-and-white HPD patrol car in the left eastbound lane of the H-1 freeway near the Kaonohi Street overpass to assist another driver whose vehicle had a blown tire.
Prosecutors said Ebert’s truck was traveling at 83 mph when it crashed into the back of Davis’ car.
