Police arrest man, search for 2 others after Waimanalo shooting

Police arrested a man and are looking for two other men on motorcycles in connection with a shooting in Waimanalo.

The shooting stemmed from a traffic incident on the H-3 freeway. A woman in a vehicle was in a traffic incident with the men on motorcycles. The woman called two male relatives who joined her and followed the motorcycles to Waimanalo.

About 4 p.m., the men in the vehicle approached the three on motorcycles, and one of the motorcyclists allegedly pulled out a gun and fired two shots into the ground and they drove off, police said.

A police car responding to the call spotted a motorcyclist and detained him at Keolu Drive and Kalanianaole Highway in Enchanted Lake. He was arrested on suspicion of terroristic threatening and reckless endangering.

Two police vehicles were damaged, and the search for one of the suspects continued in the Maunawili area.

Police used a helicopter to search for the suspects, but the search was called off about 5 p.m.

Officers were in pursuit shortly before 4:30 p.m.

Paramedics were called to the scene at Keolu and Kalanianaole, Department of Emergency Services spokeswoman Shayne Enright said. She said she did not know of any EMS crews being sent out to a shooting.

Police said a few accidents occurred because of the chase.

Police shut down Kalanianaole Highway in both directions in Waimanalo from Ehukai and Hinalea streets due to a traffic investigation.

Traffic is  being rerouted through Oluolu Street and Laumilo Street.
