Police recover stolen mopeds after traffic stops
Honolulu police recovered two stolen mopeds in separate incidents Tuesday. One of the cases involved a moped stolen two years ago.
In the other case, an officer tried to stop a moped driving on a sidewalk in Nanakuli, but the driver tried to flee.
Police said after the moped driver, a 19-year-old man, was caught at about 7:15 p.m, they discovered the moped was stolen.
Officers arrested the suspect for suspicion of unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle.
In the other case, officers pulled over a moped in Kalihi at about 5 p.m. for a traffic stop and discovered the moped was reported stolen in 2011.
The 44-year-old man driving the moped was arrested on unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle.
