Police investigated the scene of a fatal crash along Kapolei Parkway Sunday night.

An Ewa Beach man was taken to the hospital in extremely critical condition after crashing his car into several trees and light poles along Kapolei Parkway Sunday night, Honolulu police said.

Police said speed and alcohol appear to be factors in the crash, and that an investigation is ongoing.

Paramedics responded to the scene of a motor vehicle crash around 11:10 p.m. and transported a man who appeared to be in his 20s to an area hospital in extremely critical condition, according to an Emergency Medical Services report.

Police said the crash occurred around 11:05 p.m. when the man lost control of his vehicle while heading southbound on Kapolei Parkway about 450 feet south of Kaileoelea Drive. The man collided into several light poles and trees on the east side of the curb of the roadway and sustained critical injuries, police said.

Police closed Kapolei Parkway between Papipi Road and Kaileoelea Street for a few hours to conduct their investigation.
