Garrick Scott Simmons, 20, posted $20,500 bail after being charged with assaulting a police officer.

Hawaii County police have charged a 20-year-old Kailua-Kona man with assaulting two police officers responding to a disturbance call Sunday.

Garrick S. Simmons was charged Tuesday with two counts of first-degree assaulting a police officer, two counts of first-degree terroristic threatening, resisting arrest, first-degree burglary, kidnapping and unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle. Simmons was released after posting $20,500 bail.

At 5:13 p.m. Sunday, Kona patrol officers responded to the report of a man with a knife threatening people at a residence on Pumehana Street in Kailua-Kona and arrested a suspect.

During the arrest, the suspect threatened and assaulted two officers.

Detectives determined that a man entered into the home of an acquaintance, a 21-year-old Kailua-Kona man, and threatened him with a knife. The suspect later illegally entered the man’s vehicle removing items. The suspect fled the area and was located by patrol officers who arrested the suspect.

One officer suffered a concussion and sprained knee while a second officer sustained a sprained knee and abrasions. Both officers were later treated and released from the Kona Community Hospital.
