Safeway Inc. will open its newest Hawaii store at the new Maui Lani Center in Wailuku tomorrow.

Center developer HRT Ltd. announced Safeway as the anchor tenant of the 105,000 square-foot center in June of 2011. It is the fourth Safeway store on Maui.

The new, 59,000 square-foot store employs 165 people and will be open 24 hours a day.

As part of the opening, the California-based grocery chain will mark 50 years of doing business in the islands.

The Safeway Foundation will make check presentations totalling $5,000 to Imua Family Services and Hui Malama Learning Center, two nonprofit organizations serving Valley Isle residents.

A private blessing and VIP event today is accessible only by invitation.
