Wiebe wins Pacific Links Hawaii in playoff
Mark Wiebe didn’t have his best, but what he had was enough to hold off Corey Pavin Sunday and win the Pacific Links Hawaii Championship at windy Kapolei Golf Club.
Wiebe fired a final-round 72 to finish at 11-under 205, tied with playing partner Pavin after 18, who closed with a 69.
Both parred the first playoff hole at the picturesque 18th. They played the hole again with both leaving their second shots short of the green. Pavin chipped to within 10 feet, but missed his par putt after watching Wiebe drain his from 20 feet to secure the win. It was the second victory of the Champions Tour season for Wiebe — both in playoffs. Bernhard Langer shot a 68 to finish one stroke back in third at 10-under 206.
"I didn’t play as well as I did the first two days," Wiebe said. "But I played my butt off. I’ve never won twice in one year before."
