Hawaii County police are searching for a 48-year-old man who was last seen at 10 a.m. Friday in his kayak off Hilo.

The U.S. Coast Guard and Hawaii Fire Department are assisting in the search for Richard Gomez, who may be headed for South Point.

Gomez is described as 6-feet-tall, 175 pounds and bald with green eyes.

Police ask anyone with information on Gomez’s whereabouts to call the Police Department’s nonemergency line at 935-3311 or the Coast Guard Command Center on Oahu at 842-2600.

Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 961-8300 in Hilo or 329-8181 in Kona.
