Paddleboarder who apparently drowned off Waterfront Park ID’d

The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the 52-year-old man who died while doing stand-up paddleboarding off Kakaako Waterfront Park on Wednesday night as Roy Ito Jr. of Kaneohe.

An autopsy will be conducted today to determine cause of death.

Paramedics took Ito to the hospital in critical condition after surfers brought him to shore at 6:04 p.m. He died at the hospital.

Homicide detectives also are investigating the incident.
