Suspected burglar shot by police in Aiea
A 35-year-old man was hospitalized in serious condition after being shot multiple times by Honolulu Police Department officers in Aiea before 4 p.m. Tuesday.
Police said the burglary suspect fled from officers, entered an Aiea home, assaulted a resident and tried to flee in a pickup truck, striking and injuring officers.
The home, at 99-52 Moanalua Road, is several hundred feet away from Alvah A. Scott Elementary School.
Police said the burglary suspect is in serious but stable condition and now faces five counts of first-degree attempted murder, one count of burglary and two counts of auto theft. He has a history of felony convictions, including first-degree robbery, burglary, theft, auto theft and drug offenses.
EMS said a second man at the scene, in his 60s, refused treatment at the scene.
