Inmate fails to return to prison work furlough program

State sheriffs and police are looking for a 27 year-old Oahu Community Correctional Center inmate who failed to return to the Kalihi facility Monday night while on a work furlough pass.

Public Safety official said Jarrett Derego was out job seeking and did not return to OCCC at the scheduled time, 5 p.m.  He was in the beginning stages of the work furlough program.

Police and deputy sheriffs were notified at 6:20 p.m. of the escape.

Derego was serving time for violating a protection order and car theft,

His sentence was supposed to end Sept. 14, 2016, prison official said. He will be charged with second-degree once he is captured and will face additional prison time.

Derego is 5 feet 7 inches and weighs 202 pounds.  He has brown hair and brown eyes.
