All clear given at HCC after report of man with rifle near campus

The University of Hawaii got a real-life test of its emergency alert system, minutes after conducting a scheduled test of the system.

Honolulu police notifed Honolulu Community College that a man, possibly carrying a rifle, was seen on Dillingham Boulevard near HCC at about 10:15 a.m Tuesday.

HCC and the UH system sent out a security alert just after 10:30 a.m. warning students to be alert for a possible gunman wearing khaki shorts without a shirt.

HCC gave an all-clear at about 10:52 a.m., letting students know that police had checked the area and found no sign of a gunman.

The intial real-llife security alert went out about 15 minutes after the test alert and began “This is not a test.”

The initial UH security alert said there was no indication that the suspect entered community college campus at  874 Dillingham Blvd.
