STAR-ADVERTISER / 2001
A state judge awarded more than $800,000 yesterday in a lawsuit alleging the owner of the Kahala Hotel & Resort improperly charged service fees for food and beverages.

The luxury Kahala Hotel & Resort is planning golden jubilee celebrations for its 50th anniversary throughout 2014 beginning with a proclamation from Gov. Neil Abercrombie Jan. 22, marking the day the hotel opened.

The day will be proclaimed “The Kahala Hotel & Resort Golden Jubilee Day,” according to a news release.

Known for hosting heads of state, Hollywood celebrities and other luminary guests over the past half-century, the anniversary theme is ‘The Legend Inspires, The Promise Continues.’

“We’ve had the privilege of serving multiple generations as well as providing the backdrop for life’s greatest experiences like weddings, anniversaries, holidays, reunions and romance,” said Shawn Sweeney, president of The Landmark Hotels Group, which manages the hotel.
