2 Waianae men charged with car theft, drug and firearm offenses

Two Waianae men were charged Friday with multiple car theft, drug and firearm offenses allegedly discovered during an early morning traffic stop on Thursday.

Police said they pulled over the suspects’ vehicle about 12:25 p.m. and upon routine check found that the car had been reported stolen. Police said drug paraphernalia was visible inside the car. A further inspection turned up drugs, a loaded shotgun and ammunition.

The driver of the car, 29-year-old Kekoa Reyes, was charged Friday with third-degree possession of a dangerous drug, possession of drug paraphernalia, unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle, three firearms-related charges. Reyes’ aggregate bail was set at $40,000.

The passenger, 20-year-old Ivan Opunui, was charged with possession of a dangerous drug, possession of drug paraphernalia, unauthorized entry into a motorized vehicle and place to keep a loaded firearm. His bail was set at $2,000.
