The Kauai Department of Parks and Recreation will be replenishing sand to Poipu Beach, starting Dec. 9.

About 490 cubic yards of sand from the Kawai-lele Bird Sanctuary in Mana will be placed in small sections at a time between the beach lifeguard tower and the keiki pool, county officials said in a news release Tuesday.

The sand will be formed into a dune about a foot higher than the existing escarpment to allow for compaction from settling and beachgoer traffic, the news release said. The project is expected to be completed by the end of that week.

For more information, contact William Tru-gillo, project manager, at 241-4927 or wtrugillo@kauai.gov.
