Thai university, UH-Hilo set up exchange plan
HILO » The University of Hawaii at Hilo’s pharmacy school and a university in Thailand are establishing an exchange program.
The agreement between the Daniel K. Inouye College of Pharmacy and Rangsit University will give Hilo students in the fourth year of pharmacy school a chance to go to Thailand for their advanced pharmacy practice experiences.
Rangsit doctoral students will have an opportunity to come to Hawaii to work in the Inouye college’s laboratories.
The college said in a statement Tuesday the agreement also allows faculty to collaborate on research and work with professional pharmacists.
Rangsit University is north of Bangkok.
This is the second agreement between the Hilo pharmacy school and a Thai university. The first was signed in 2011.
Rescuers aid ailing man in Haleakala park
Maui firefighters and rescue personnel flew into Haleakala crater on Tuesday afternoon to airlift a 66-year-old man who was having heart problems.
The man was at the Holua Cabin in Haleakala National Park and taken to Hosmer Grove in stable condition.
Blaze scorches 2 acres before it is snuffed out
Maui firefighters extinguished a fire that burned about 2 acres of brush, trash and an abandoned truck in Haiku Tuesday night.
The alarm came in at 7:29 p.m. Firefighters had the blaze under control by 8:50 p.m. and extinguished by 11:25 p.m., officials said.
The cause of the fire is undetermined.
