A 21-year-old woman woke up Thursday morning in the Honolulu area to her husband hitting her on the head and later choking her, police said.

Police arrested her 27-year-old man around 10:45 a.m. on suspicion of abuse.

The woman told police that he started hitting her on her head around 8:50 a.m. and prevented her from leaving when she tried to flee. 

According to police documents, he then grabbed her and choked her in the kitchen. Police said the woman was able to have security notify them once her husband let go of her.
