Man wanted for sex assault on Kauai awaits extradition from Washington state

A 29-year-old Kauai man accused of sexually assaulting a minor is awaiting extradition from Washington state where he was apprehended last week by a federal fugitive task force.

Joel Ibana was arrested Friday in Tacoma based on a bench warrant issued on Dec. 11 by a Circuit Court on Kauai.

Ibana was indicted by a grand jury on six counts of first-degree sexual assault and one count of third-degree sexual assault.

The alleged assault occurred in April 2010 and involved a female victim under the age of 14.

The Kauai County Prosecutors Office requested the assistance of the Hawaii Fugitive Task Force and through their investigation developed information that Ibana was residing in Puyallup, Wash.

His bail was set at $100,000.
