Hanauma Bay reopens after sewage problem fixed
The city reopened Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve this afternoon, about 90 minutes after a sewage backup that shut down restrooms there forced the facility’s closure.
The nature preserve closed shortly before noon. About 1,000 people at the beach were being allowed to stay although vehicles were turned away at the entrance to the parking lot and lookout.
But a backup system has since come online and the attraction reopened about 1:30 p.m., city spokesman Jesse Broder Van Dyke said.
