High surf warning in effect for most islands
According to the National Weather Service, a large, incoming northwest swell is “rapidly building” which could produce waves up to 30 feet for the north shores of several islands.
A high surf warning is in effect for the north- and west-facing shores of Oahu, Kauai, Molokai, Niihau and the north-facing shores of Maui until 6 a.m. today.
The north facing shores could see waves up to 25 to 30 feet and the west-facing shores may see waves up to 18 to 22 feet tonight, forecasters say.
Weather officials advise beachgoers to expect strong breaking waves, shore break and longshore and rip currents creating hazardous swimming conditions.
