Hawaii downs Cal Baptist in volleyball
Junior opposite Brook Sedore put down 17 kills and No. 11 Hawaii moved into a tie for third place in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation volleyball standings with a 25-20, 22-25, 25-20, 25-23 victory over unranked Cal Baptist Friday night at the Stan Sheriff Center.
Sophomore hitter Siki Zarkovic added 11 kills and senior middle Nick West 10 kills and four aces for the Rainbow Warriors (9-4, 7-3). Junior middle Taylor Averill had eight kills with no errors on 10 swings, and sophomore libero Kolby Kanetake 12 digs as Hawaii won a fourth straight in MPSF play for the first time since 2011.
Freshman hitter Jackson Burge led the Lancers (3-9, 2-8) with 14 kills and junior hitter Johannes Brink had 13 kills but 13 errors. Cal Baptist, 0-7 on the road this season, outlblocked Hawaii 14-11 with senior middle Kristopher Johnson in on eight.
Hawaii next travels to No. 5 USC (7-5, 6-5) for matches Thursday and Saturday. The Rainbow Warriors are tied with UC Santa Barbara for third in the standings.
