No. 7 Oregon sweeps Hawaii to start baseball season
The Hawaii baseball team might want to think about starting the season against someone other than Oregon.
The seventh-ranked Ducks completed a four-game sweep of the Rainbow Warriors and ran their winning streak in the series to 11 with a 10-2 victory on Monday afternoon at Les Murakami Stadium.
Third baseman Scott Heineman broke an 0-for-14 start with three hits and three runs scored and Tyler Baumgartner was 3-for-4 with three runs scored and an RBI to help Oregon coach George Horton earn his 900th collegiate victory as a head coach.
Oregon senior Jeff Gold (1-0) allowed one run on five hits in six innings to earn the win.
Hawaii senior Scott Kuzminsky (0-1) allowed seven runs on eight hits in seven innings with no walks and three strikeouts.
Oregon put the game away with a six-run eighth off of four different UH pitchers.
Kaeo Aliviado went 2-for-4 and Marcus Doi singled in the third to stretch both hitting streaks to four games.
Jordan Richartz hit a two-out RBI single in the fifth and Quintin Torres-Costa hit a pinch-hit sacrifice fly in the ninth to score Adam Hurley.
UH returns to the field Thursday night to host Albany in the first of a four-game set.
