Cooper tosses 3-hit shutout in Hawaii win
Hawaii senior Matt Cooper tossed his second career shutout, allowing just three hits in Hawaii’s 2-0 win over Pepperdine on Wednesday night at Les Murakami Stadium.
Cooper (2-0) still hasn’t allowed an earned run in 21 innings this season and lowered his career ERA at home to 1.60 as Hawaii (5-4) won its fifth straight game. He tied a career high with 10 strikeouts and didn’t allow a walk, throwing 107 pitches.
Kaeo Aliviado walked and scored in the sixth and Marc Flores added an RBI double off the wall in right-center in the eighth.
Matt Maurer (0-1) took the loss for the Waves (6-2), allowing one run on six hits in 6 2/3 innings with three walks and three strikeouts.
Flores finished with three of Hawaii’s seven hits and Jordan Richartz went 2-for-3 with a run scored.
The series continues Thursday night at 6:35 p.m.
